Absentee, mail ballot voters urged to make returns soon

With less than two weeks to go before Election Day, the Nobles County Auditor-Treasurer’s Office is reminding voters who have requested an absentee ballot to vote early — or have received their ballot in the mail if they live in a mail ballot precinct -- to return their ballots as soon as possible.

Ballots need to be at the auditor-treasurer’s office by 8 p.m. on Election Day to be counted. Getting ballots returned early allows staff to process ballots so votes can be counted promptly after the polls close on Election Night.

As of 4:30 p.m. Oct. 22, 3,814 ballots had been mailed out or handed directly to voters in Nobles County. Of those 3,814 ballots, 2,940 were mailed to registered voters who live in mail ballot precincts and the remaining 809 ballots were provided to voters who applied for an absentee ballot.

Of the 3,814 ballots already in the hands of voters, 39.33% or 1,500 have been returned by the voters. That means that 15.8% of the 9,491 registered voters have cast their votes for the November 5th General Election.

Graham Lakes Township is currently in the lead for the highest percentage of mail ballots returned at 38.51%, followed closely by the City of Lismore at 37.3% and Bloom and Leota townships both just over 35%.

Ballots can be returned by the U.S. Postal Service, hand-delivered to the Auditor-Treasurer’s Office or deposited in the secure drop box located at Door #1 of the Nobles County Government Center. The drop box is available 24/7 and under video surveillance.

People who would like to vote ahead of Election Day are encouraged to vote as soon as possible to avoid long lines closer to Election Day. The Auditor-Treasurer’s Office will have extended voting hours as follows:

Saturday, October 26th—9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tuesday, October 29th—open until 7 p.m.

Saturday, November 2nd—9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sunday, November 3rd—9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Monday, November 4th—open until 5 p.m.

For more information on voting, contact the Nobles County Auditor-Treasurer’s Office at (507) 295-5258 or check the Nobles County Website’s Election Page at www.nobles.mn.us.
