One person died and four people were injured Tuesday evening as the result of a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 71 in Cottonwood County.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2018 Kia Sportage operated by Hunter Tim Allan Schwartz, 28, of Albert Lea was southbound on U.S. 71 in snow/ice conditions and a 2023 Buick Enclave operated by Amy Sue Pigman, 42, of Odin was northbound. The vehicles collided near 510th Avenue; the crash was reported at 6:22 p.m. Tuesday.
Schwartz, who according to the State Patrol was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to Windom Area Health and died as a result of his injuries. Pigman had a non-life-threatening injury and was not transported to a health care facility. A 12-year-old male, 13-year-old male and 14-year-old male who were each a passenger in the Enclave were all transported to Windom Area Health with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Cottonwood County and Jackson County Sheriff's Office, the Windom Police Department, the Windom Ambulance and Lakefield Ambulance, and the Windom Fire Department provided assistance at the scene.

An Edgerton man was injured Tuesday in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 90.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2002 Chevrolet operated by Randall Clare Raak, 61, of Edgerton was eastbound on I-90 in snow/ice conditions when it lost control and rolled. The crash took place at 4:48 p.m. Tuesday near mile marker 73 in Jackson County.
Raak was taken to Sanford Jackson Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office and Ambulance, along with the Jackson Fire Department, assisted at the scene.
