Amateur baseball regular season enters final week

In amateur baseball action on Sunday afternoon, the Worthington Cubs dropped to 2-11 in league play this season as they were defeated by Fox Lake 9-4 in Truman.

 

In other games over the weekend involving First Nite and Gopher League teams, it was: Hadley 9, Heron Lake 3; Jackson 10, Heron Lake 0; and Luverne 4, Jackson 1. There were no mid-week games this past week due to the July 4 holiday.


Current standings in Gopher League continue to have the Luverne Redbirds at the head of the pack with a league record of 10-2. The Milroy Irish are in second place at 8-3, while the Hadley Buttermakers are third at 7-5. Next come the Pipestone A's at 3-9, followed by Worthington.


In the First Nite League, there continues to be a three-way fight for the top spot as the regular season enters its final week. The Fairmont Martins sit atop the standings with a mark of 10-3. The Windom Pirates and Jackson Bulls, meanwhile, are both 9-3. Also competing in the First Nite League are the Lakefield Horned Frogs (4-8), the Fox Lake Foxes (3-9) and the Heron Lake Lakers (2-11).


Games scheduled for Wednesday night include Heron Lake at Fairmont, Lakefield at Windom and Fox Lake at Jackson. On Friday, Fairmont plays in New Ulm and Lakefield is at Jackson. Milroy is at Windom and Fox Lake is at Windom on Saturday, and Sunday afternoon games include Fox Lake at Pipestone, Lakefield at Heron Lake, Fairmont at Hadley and Jackson at Worthington.
