The Worthington Trojans boys hockey team got 31 saves from senior goalie Steven Adams and senior forward Konner Honius had a goal and three assists Thursday night as the Trojans blanked Waseca at home. 5-0.
Alec Langerud scored on a pass from Honius just 38 seconds into the game to get WHS off on the right track. Easton Newman poked a shot home following a Honius pass with 23.9 seconds left in the first period to make it 2-0.
In the second period, Ian Bumgardner made it 3-0 Trojans with a goal at the 6:26 mark. Waseca had a two-man advantage for the final 1:40 of the second period, but Adams made several saves to keep the Bluejays at bay and the period ended with people in the crowd chanting, “Steven! Steven!”
Honius and Blake Luinenburg scored the goals in the third period for Worthington, now 7-3 overall.

The Worthington Trojans wrestling team split a pair of matches Thursday night in Redwood Valley, losing to Fairmont-Martin County West 58-15 and defeating Quad County 64-18.
Alex Galvez won by decision at 108 pounds and Cole Hennings won by fall at 285 for the only WHS victories in its first match of the night. The Trojans did get six more points via a forfeit. Rylan Cutler, Jesse Potts, Kaine Sanders, Aden Welcome, Gage Syphers, Carver Rohman, Riley Allen and Wyatt Williamson all had pins for Fairmont-Martin County West.
Alex Galvez, Ethan Meyer (126), Mason Schutz (160) and Cole Hennings each triumphed with pins against Quad County, and the Trojans also won five matches via forfeit.

The Worthington Trojans girls basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak in impressive fashion Thursday, scoring 58 first-half points en route to a 92-57 win at Windom.
Coach Eric Lindner gave his team credit for being more deliberate than in recent games, getting better shots while also keeping turnovers down. After hitting 3-pointers infrequently during their losing streak, the Trojans connected on six Thursday.
Oliva Hayenga had 21 points for the Trojans, now 7-4, and Ellie Weg had 20 points and 11 rebounds. Madison Beckmann added 13 points and Brooklyn Scheitel-Taylor contributed eight points, eight assists and seven steals.
Windom got nine 3-pointers and 29 points overall from KJ Huska. Hadley Sammons added 10 points.

In gymnastics, WHS tallied 142.350 points as a team in defeating host Pipestone, which had 124.875.
Hali Bullerman of the Trojans won the all-around with 35.925 points, just ahead of Mekyla Nystrom and her 35.2 points. Bullerman was first on the vault at 9.425, followed by Nystrom and 9.3 and Kelsey Soleta at 9.075. On the bars, Bullerman won with an 8.65, with Oliva Barber second at 8.325 and Nystrom third at 8.2.
Abby Bristow captured the beam competition with a 9.0, with Barber second at 8.95 and Nystrom third at 8.85. On the floor, Bullerman won with a score of 9.4. Bristow was second at 9.35 and Barber third at 9.3.

In boys basketball, sophomore guard Kaleb Knothe scored 25 points and pulled down 10 rebounds Thursday, but it wasn’t enough for the Trojans as Windom earned a 90-77 victory. Freshman guard Jacari Swinea added 23 points for Worthington and senior post Jake Brandner contributed 13. Junior guard Mikele Walu passed for eight assists.
Windom junior guard Henry Erickson exploded for 43 points and 13 assists, and Abe McKibben had 29 points. The Trojans are now 1-7 overall this season.
