The Minnesota West Lady Jays held St. Cloud Tech to 19 percent shooting from the field in the first half and 27 percent shooting for the game , earning a 70-54 victory Saturday afternoon at the Center for Health and Wellness on the Minnesota West Worthington campus.
The Lady Jays won their second consecutive conference game by also forcing St. Cloud Tech into 28 turnovers. Minnesota West led by 18 at halftime and coasted the rest of the way, as the visiting Cyclones only got as close as 11 late in the fourth quarter.
Madisyn Huisman, a Worthington freshman, was red-hot from the floor in the first half for the Jays, scoring 18 of her game-best 20 points in the first two quarters. Huisman also grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.
Other contributors for Minnesota West were MacKensie Post, who had 14 points, five assists and five rebounds, and Dannyn Peterson, who added 13 points and five rebounds. Minnesota West is now 6-9 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while St. Cloud Tech is 7-2 and 0-1.
The men’s game between Minnesota West and St. Cloud Tech scheduled for Saturday afternoon was postponed to an as-to-be-determined date due to COVID-19-related issued with the Bluejays. The Minnesota West women’s game scheduled for Wednesday night against Fergus Falls has also been postponed because of COVID-19 concerns with the Fergus Falls squad.
