The Worthington Trojans boys soccer team, playing in just their second home match of the season, blanked the Mankato Loyola Crusaders 3-0 on Thursday night to improve to 9-0 on the season.
WHS marked Parents Night prior to the start of the match and took a 2-0 advantage in the first 40 minutes following an early goal from Christian Martinez on a rebound in front of the Crusader net and a goal struck by Alan Flores past a diving Mankato Loyola goalkeeper. In the second half, Jonathan Banegas drilled a shot to the left of the Crusader goalie into the corner of the net to make it 3-0.
The Trojans controlled play for a majority of the game but were victimized by multiple offsides calls – particularly in the first half. Defensively, WHS picked up its sixth shutout of the season.
