The Worthington Trojans boys soccer team turned in a dominating performance on Tuesday at Waseca, as they got out to a 7-0 first half lead en route to a 12-0 win.
With the triumph, the Trojans – ranked seventh in the latest state Class 2A poll – moved to 9-0 overall on the season.
Edgar Carrillo, Jonathan Banegas, Dalen Gonzalez. Cristian Tamas and Alan Flores each scored two goals for Worthington, and Isaiah Noble and Buoy Lia also scored.
In girls soccer Tuesday, Waseca defeated visiting Worthington 6-0. Waseca built a 5-0 advantage in the first half thanks to great crosses and runs up the middle, Trojans head coach Emily Ahlquist said. Ahlquist added that the Trojans were not playing at full strength because of injuries, but the girls fought hard and really were connecting passes better than their game against Marshall on Monday night.
The Trojans will practice today for the first time in a week, Ahlquist pointed out, and the team has a lot to work on offensively. The team played better overall than Monday, she said, but Waseca was a tougher team and it took advantage of the Trojans’ mistakes.
