August's high and low temperatures were both within a degree of the average for the month while the rainfall total was 1.7 inches below normal, according to data recorded at Worthington's Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The average high temperature for this past month was 78.8 degrees, which is .6 degrees cooler than the 79.4 normal high for Worthington in August. The Wastewater Treatment Plant recorded two high temperatures of 90 degrees or warmer during the month, as Aug. 27 had a high of 91 and Aug. 4 had a high right at 90. There were high temperatures of 89 degrees on Aug. 3 and 26.
The average low temperature for this just-completed August was 58.3 degrees, or .5 degrees warmer than the 57.8 that's normal for Worthington. The coolest thermometer reading came on Aug. 11, when there was a low of 51. The next coolest, 53 degrees, came on Aug. 7 and 13.
As for rainfall, a total of 2.15 inches were measured at the Wastewater Treatment Plant this past month. The August average for Worthington is 3.85 inches. The greatest amount of rain in one 24-hour period this past August was recorded on Aug. 30; the total was .85 inches.
For the first eight months of 2024, the average high has been 59.3 degrees and the average low 39.3. That compares to typical year-to-date averages of 56.6 and 36.3, respectively.
The precipitation total for the year now stands at 32.83 inches. That's still well above normal, as the eight-month average total for Worthington is 22.78 inches.
