Beloved Karen story to be staged in English at Memorial Auditorium

The story of Muyehpen has been passed down for generations by the Knyaw (Karen) people of Burma, and it's coming soon to Worthington's Memorial Auditorium Performing Arts Center.

Known to be the most beautiful Knyaw woman in her time, and possessing supernatural powers, Muyehpen was kidnapped by the king of Siam and became a sacrifice. The play "Muyehpen"  is her narrative of resistance and resilience, which lives on today. Written by Ehkhudah Zar, it's the first-ever theater production by a Knyaw playwright in the U.S. and shares the story of Muyehpen with a new generation.

Exposed Brick Theatre produced the world premiere of "Muyehpen" in May 2023 at the Historic Mounds Theatre in St Paul. The company will stage an English-language production in Worthington on one night only — at 6 p.m. May 4 at Memorial Auditorium.

This performance is being presented by the Nobles County Integration Collaborative and Exposed Brick Theatre. There will be free admission.
