The Minnesota West men's basketball team has moved in to the numerical rankings in this week's NJCAA Division III poll.
Last week, the Bluejays were listed in the "receiving votes" category. This week, Minnesota West checks in at No. 15 in the poll, the final team in the numerical ranking. The Bluejays are off to a 12-2 start to the season after a pair of home victories over the weekend — 81-55 over Minnesota North College-Itasca and 71-65 over Northland Community & Technical College.
Minnesota West is in the midst of a six-game winning streak. Meanwhile, its MCAC South Division rival, Riverland, is ranked No. 1 in the men's Division III poll with an unblemished record of 13-0. The Bluejays first play Riverland Jan. 15 in Austin, then host the Blue Devils on Feb. 8.
In women's college basketball, the Minnesota West Lady Jays remained in the No. 4 position in this week's NJCAA Division III poll. The Lady Jays split their games this weekend, routing Minnesota North College-Itasca 75-32 and falling to second-ranked Northland 60-45 at the Center for Health & Wellness. Minnesota West has been defeated in four of its last five games and is 6-6 on the season.
Once again, it's all Region 13 teams in the top four of the women's poll. The order is the same as last week: Rochester, Northland, Anoka-Ramsey and the Lady Jays.
Both Minnesota West basketball teams are idle until Dec. 30, when they each play their first of two home games in two days in the Minnesota West New Year's Classic. Conference play begins Jan. 8.
