Bluejay wrestlers go 1-1 in home triangular meet

The Minnesota West Community & Technical College wrestling team will have its next meet on Wednesday, Dec. 4, when it hosts North Iowa Area Community College at 7 p.m. at the Center for Health & Wellness on the Worthington campus.

The Bluejays’ most recent action came this past Wednesday night at home, when they hosted both the Ellsworth Community College Panthers and the eighth-ranked Rochester Community and Technical College Yellowjackets.

Action began with the Bluejays taking on the Panthers of Ellsworth. Ellsworth got off to a quick start with a 15-0 lead. Isaac Gardner was able to get the Bluejays on the board after receiving a forfeit at 157. Treveon Owens kept the momentum going, earning a 26-10 tech fall for Minnesota West, and Sam Rock followed with a 18-9 major decision of his own.

The Bluejays’ Alex Schmitz and Jackson Miksch received forfeits at 184 and 197, respectively, and Minnesota West came away with a 27-20 win over Ellsworth, earning its first dual win of the season.

Action continued with Ellsworth and Rochester, followed by Rochester and Minnesota West. The Bluejays fell to the No. 8 Yellowjackets, 53-0.

After Minnesota West’s home dual against North Iowa Area Community College next week, the Bluejays will next be at home on Jan. 11 against both Ridgewater and Northland. One week later – on Jan. 18 – the Bluejays will host the Worthington Open tournament.
