Brackets for girls 3AA, 3AA hoops tourneys announced

The schedule has been announced for the upcoming Section 3AA girls basketball tournament.


New London-Spicer is the top seed in the north, while Luverne is No. 1 in the south. Luverne will host eighth-seeded Minnesota Valley Lutheran at 7 p.m. Saturday. Other sectional games Saturday night, all at 7 p.m., include No. 5 Windom at No. 4 St. James, sixth-seeded Jackson County Central at third-seeded Fairmont and No. 7 Redwood Valley at No. 2 Pipestone.


The sectional quarterfinals are scheduled for Feb. 28. The sub-section finals will be on March 2 at SMSU in Marshall, and the sectional finals will be March 10 at SMSU.


For Section 3A, action in a pigtail round scheduled for Thursday includes ninth-seeded Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda at eighth-seeded Murray County Central at 7 p.m. in Slayton. First-play begins Saturday with Laq Qui Parle Valley seeded first in the north and Southwest Minnesota Christian first in the south.


Saturday’s games include the Eagles taking on the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda at MCC winner at 11 a.m., No. 5 Hills-Beaver Creek vs. No. 4 Tracy-Milroy-Balaton at 12:30 p.m., No. 6 Red Rock Central vs. No. 3 Edgerton at 2:30 p.m. and No. 7 Adrian-Ellsworth vs. No. 2 Westbrook-Walnut Grove at 4 p.m. Each of these games will be played at Worthington High School. The section quarterfinals will be played Feb. 28. The sub-section finals and section finals are scheduled for March 3 and 10, respectively, at SMSU.

Kamryn Van Batavia of Luverne is among the five finalists for Minnesota’s Ms. Hockey Award. The winner will be announced Feb. 26 at the annual Ms. Hockey Banquet at the Saint Paul RiverCentre.

Worthington’s 12u girls hockey team placed third at this past weekend's tournament at the Worthington Arena and have advanced to regions as a result.
