Worthington High School’s cross-country teams hosted the Turkey Trot meet at the former Prairie View Golf Links site on Thursday.
In the girls race, Murray County Central/Fulda’s Mara Clarke topped all competitors with a time of 20:19.01, finishing less than a second ahead of Southwest Minnesota Christian-Edgerton’s Hannah Masselink. Laiken Farris of MCC/Fulda was third while another member of the Warriors, Sophia Nelson, took sixth.
Sioux Falls Lincoln was first among teams with 40 points, and MCC/Fulda was second with 66. Worthington, meanwhile, finished with 116 points. The Trojans were led by Madison Sieve, who was 18th; Claire Schultz, who was 21st; and Kenadie Thiner, who was 30th.
In the boys race, the Trojans’ Fanuel Wolday crossed the finish line first with a time of 16:49.59. Among other area runners, Bryce Green of Windom Area was seventh, and Evan Baumgardner, Matthew Stapek and Alexander Betz – all of MCC/Fulda - finished 12th, 13th and 14th, respectively. Braylen Lions of Windom Area was 17th and Darwin Demarrias-Jansma of Adrian-Ellsworth was 20th. No Trojans besides Wolday placed among the top 40; Sioux Falls Lincoln was the team winner.

In boys soccer, Worthington recorded its second dominating home win in three days by topping Waseca 9-0. The Trojans, now 7-0-2 on the season, got three more goals from Carlos Castillo and two more from Issac Perez; they each now seven goals apiece this week alone. Daniel Garcia scored twice, and Alan Tovar and Andy Guzman contributed a goal apiece.

In girls soccer, Worthington was defeated at Waseca 8-0.

In girls volleyball, host Windom outlasted Worthington 3-2 by game scores of 25-23, 21-25, 25-10, 25-27, 15-9.
The Trojans did an outstanding job in coming back to force a game five. After trailing 15-4, WHS got to within 19-18, then fended off five consecutive match points to ultimately get the victory.
WHS senior Jayden Spartz had a big match with 20 kills, 22 digs and four ace serves. Natya Khamphanh passed for 35 set assists and added 10 digs, a pair of blocks and a pair of ace serves. Kamryn Olson chipped in with 16 digs as the Trojans dropped to 3-4.
