Council to consider purchase of land from Slumberland on Monday

Among the business items listed on the agenda for Monday's Worthington City Council meeting is a purchase agreement with Slumberland for the city's North Ray Drive extension project.


During a special council meeting on March 19, council members directed staff to negotiate with the owner of Slumberland to acquire the necessary right-of-way for the North Ray Drive Extension project. Staff has reached an agreement with the property owner and prepared a purchase agreement with a total land price not to exceed $168,000, as recommended by the appraisal.


Also Monday, a pair of property tax abatement hearings are scheduled to take place.


South Shore Apartments of Worthington is seeking approval of tax abatement for the construction of two, 36-unit apartment buildings on a parcel  located between Flower Lane and U.S. 59/Minnesota 60. The site will be located on a newly proposed street, East Flower Lane.


Another public hearing will pertain to a tax abatement program application submitted by J Briones Construction. The applicant is seeking approval of tax abatement for the construction of a two-unit townhome on Sutherland Drive.


Also Monday, council members will consider approval of a lease agreement between the city and Worthington Independent School District 518 for city staff to lay out and maintain the green space at Prairie Elementary for recreational soccer play. It's anticipated that the area will accommodate up to three adult and two youth fields.
