The Worthington City Council on Monday night is scheduled to consider the execution of an agreement for a feasibility study on a potential remodel of the current Worthington Ice Arena.
Council members, during their Jan. 25 meeting, requested city staff get a feasibility report and cost estimate for remodeling the existing ice arena. Staff has retained HTG Architects of Hopkins, which has designed new and renovated ice arenas throughout the country and has significant experience in Minnesota.
The proposed scope of work includes developing site plans and floor plans, preparing exterior elevations, preparing cost estimates and establishing a project schedule. The fee to perform this phase of work is a lump sum of $3,400 plus expenses.
The city is considering the possibility of renovating the current ice arena while also mulling over moving forward with funding a new ice facility. Multiple estimates have been provided for such a facility, with a single-sheet area without a walking track costing about $18.2 million and a two-sheet arena without a walking track costing nearly $27.2 million.
Also scheduled to be part of Monday's city council meeting are a pair of public hearings on planned street reconstruction projects for Murray Avenue and Sixth Avenue, respectively. Also on the agenda is the potential approval of plans for mill and overlay work in the Cherry Point neighborhood. The project will include improvements to Liberty Drive, Pershing Boulevard, Betty Avenue, Godfrey Street, Leon Avenue and Grandview Avenue; it will not include West Lake Avenue.
