The Worthington Police Department has released its annual "by the numbers" report for 2024.
Data is taken from the Worthington PD records management system. Among crimes against persons, the report notes 27 instances of criminal sexual conduct in 2024, a 68.8% increase from 16 in 2023. There was also an increase in threats, as there were 73 in 2024 compared to 49 the previous year — an increase of 49%. Disorderly conduct was also up 25%, from 133 in 2023 to 167 in 2024.
In terms of property crimes, data shows the number of burglaries went from 19 in 2023 to 11 in 2024, a decrease of 42.1%. Theft also had a 17.2% decrease, as it went from 157 in 2023 to 130 in 2024. ID theft, however, rose from 13 to 18 (or 38.5%) and scam calls were up from 53 to 62 (or 17%).
There was a significant increase in the number of fire calls made in 2024, as they rose 97.1% from 34 to 67. Under Quality of Life Calls, junk vehicle reports went from 116 to 172 (up 48.3%) in 2024, and illegal burning from 14 to 24 (up 71.4%).
According to WPD records, there were a total of 302 traffic accidents in 2024, which represents a 7.1% decline from the 325 in 2023. There was little change in the number of traffic stops, as they decreased by 1.7% from 5,131 in 2023 to 5,045 last year. There were no traffic accidents with a fatality in 2024, as was the case in 2023.
Among other data, WPD instances of suicidal persons went from 17 in 2023 to 28 in 2024 (up 64.7%) and missing persons went from 24 in 2023 to 35 in 2024 (up 45.8%).
