The fourth-seeded Adrian-Ellsworth Dragons advanced to the semifinals of the South Sub-Section 3A volleyball tournament by fighting off a Tracy-Milroy Balaton comeback and winning 3-2 Friday night in the Adrian High School gym. Game scores were 25-17, 25-20, 17-25, 25-27, 15-10.
The Dragons, now 12-9, controlled game one and then emerged with the game two triumph after the teams were tied at multiple occasions. Game three then saw a Panther turnaround, as T-M-B scored 10 of the final 12 points after there had been a 15-15 deadlock.
In game four, the Dragons were down 19-14 but bounced back and forced extra points before T-M-B prevailed. Adrian-Ellsworth then dominated the winner-take-all game five, going up 14-5 before ultimately closing things out.
Brylee Zebe topped the Dragons individually with 15 kills and 41 digs while going 18-for-19 serving with an ace. Kamry Lehnhoff contributed 12 kills and 22 digs with 21-for-22 serving an ace. Mersaydes Marten had 20 set assists and served 18-for-18 with a pair of aces.
A-E will now play top-seeded Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Worthington High in a semifinal match. The other semis match will have No. 2 Westbrook-Walnut Grove against No. 3 Southwest Minnesota Christian, which will follow the Dragons-Knights match.
