The visiting Windom Eagles defeated Worthington 3-1 Thursday night in high school volleyball. Game scores were 25-12, 20-25, 25-14, 25-20.
Madison Beckmann had a solid match for the Trojans in defeat, recording 19 kills to go along with three ace serves and a pair of blocks. Janessa Hamman added 10 kills, Jayden Spartz had seven kills and six digs and Addison Gerber had 11 digs, four kills, an ace serve and 29 set assists. Worthington is now 2-2 this season.

The WHS boys soccer team took a 3-1 lead into halftime, then saw visiting New Ulm tie it up before bouncing back to claim a 5-3 win.
Jonathan Banegas had a pair of first-half goals – the initial one coming on a penalty kick -- and Danny Banegas also had two, scoring once in each half. Andy Guzman tallied the go-ahead goal in the second half as the ninth-ranked Trojans moved to 4-1 overall.
WHS will play at home at 7 p.m. Saturday against Austin. It will be Meet the Trojans following the match.

In girls soccer action, host New Ulm blanked Worthington in a game in which the Trojans played very well. New Ulm got one goal in the first half and another in the second as Worthington dropped to 1-4 this season.

The Worthington High boys cross country team placed fifth out of 10 teams Thursday in the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panther Invitational. Fanuel Wolday took third individually for the Trojans with a time of 16.42.50 seconds. Austin Kinser was the next WHS finisher, taking 25th with a time of 18.36.50. Asrat Bonnett was 36th, Caleb Meyer 42nd, Isaac Kinser 47th and Holden Meyer 56th.
In the girls race, the Trojans finished in ninth place, with Windom Area’s Kaylee Walklin taking first individually. Madison Sieve was 33rd in 23:55.22 for the highest Worthington placing. Kenadie Thiner was 42nd, Lauryn Ahlers 70th, Anake Wede 72nd, Myranda Widboom 73rd and Marisa Their 74th.
