For weeks, Minnesota House Democrats have failed to show up to work in St. Paul while still collecting their legislative paychecks. The Minnesota Supreme Court has also ruled the Minnesota House of Representatives cannot conduct legislative business, meaning the state is dealing with a Democrat shutdown.
So says District 21B Rep. Marj Fogelman, Republican from Fulda, who said in a press release she issued Thursday that the people deserve better.
Said Fogelman: “House Democrats literally went to the Supreme Court to prevent us from doing the work Minnesotans elected us to do. By shutting down the Minnesota House, Democrats are disrespecting their constituents and the entire state of Minnesota.”
Fogelman added that she and all other House Republicans have, as the public expects, shown up for work since session began on Jan. 14.
The Minnesota Supreme Court recently ruled 68 members must be present in order to officially hold session and committee hearings, and Republicans only have 67 members. With the Democratic members absent, ll floor sessions, committee hearings, and even bill introductions cannot happen.
The 2025 session is constitutionally required to end on May 19.
