Granite Falls man arrested after Pipestone burglary

Information was released by the Pipestone County Sheriff’s Office with regard to an incident that took place within Pipestone on New Year's Day.

According to the press release, the Pipestone County Sheriff’s Office responded Wednesday to a report of a residential burglary in progress in the 1100 block of Ninth Avenue Southwest in Pipestone. It was reported that an unknown male subject was inside the residence. Deputies responded, secured the residence and removed all occupants to a safe location.

The male subject barricaded himself in the basement of the residence along with multiple firearms, the press release continued. Assistance was requested from the H.E.A.T. Tactical Entry Team and other area law enforcement agencies who immediately responded to provide assistance.

After approximately four hours of attempting to contact the subject — and deploying a robot and aerial drone to conduct remote searches of the basement -- officers made entry into the basement, the sheriff's office said. That's where a 38-year-old Granite Falls male was located and taken into custody without incident.

The incident remains under investigation. Assisting agencies were the Buffalo Ridge Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division, the Murray County Sheriff’s Office and the Pipestone County Ambulance.

The sheriff’s office said there is no further ongoing danger to the public related to this incident.
