January marks National Blood Donor Month, a time to honor the invaluable contributions of the millions of blood donors nationwide who assist patients during critical moments. Community Blood Bank, Sanford Luverne Medical Center, Rock County Sheriff’s Office, and Luverne Fire Department will the annual Heroes Behind the Badges blood drive from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 13 at Sanford Luverne Medical Center.
The blood drive event is a friendly competition between the sheriff's office and fire department to see which organization can receive the most blood donation votes. The winners receive bragging rights for the year and a traveling trophy. Blood donations will impact the lives of local patients.
Schedule a donation appointment by logging onto cbblifeblood.org, select “events”, and Jan. 13 or call Community Blood Bank at 605-331-3222. All those donating blood will receive a $15 Kwik Trip gift card as a thank-you gift. Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form available at cbblifeblood.org), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health to donate.
