Hills-Beaver Creek to play for state 9-Man football title

Unbeaten Hills-Beaver Creek will play for a Minnesota state 9-man football title next week after defeating Mountain Iron-Buhl 26-20 in a Thursday afternoon semifinal at U.S. Bank Stadium.


Patriots quarterback Jamin Metzger ran for two touchdowns and passed for another TD. His two-yard scoring run and two-point conversion pass to Jack Moser put H-BC ahead for good 10-8 early in the second quarter. Metzger also had a 16-yard touchdown pass to Beau Bakken late in the second quarter and a two-yard TD run in the fourth. He had two-point conversion passes to Jace Gacke and Cameron Allen as well.


The Patriots will play Fertile-Beltrami at 10 a.m. Nov. 23 at U.S. Bank Stadium for a state title.

In the Class 4A football semifinals, the Marshall Tigers' season came to an end as they were beaten by Becker 28-7. 


The Tigers got to within 14-7 of Becker with 1:32 left in the first half on a Gavin Schafer one-yard run, but Becker got a pair of TDs in the third quarter. Marshall ends its season at 10-2.

In girls hockey Thursday night, Worthington was beaten on the road in Austin, 1-0. The lone goal of the game came in the second period. The Trojans were stopped on all 34 of their shots; Macie Mahlberg had 30 saves in net for WHS.
