Iowa high school baseball playoffs set to begin Saturday

The Iowa High School Athletic Association 2004 Baseball Postseason will be getting underway later this week.


In Class 1A, Substate 1 District 2 playoff action gets started Saturday. Among the games scheduled is third-seeded Kingsley-Pierson facing off against No. 6 Sibley-Ocheyedan at 5 p.m. at Marcus Meriden Cleghorn Remsen Union in Marcus. Also playing at that location at 7 p.m. Saturday are second-seeded MMCRU and seventh-seeded Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn. Another matchup Saturday features No. 4 George-Little Rock against No. 5 Westwood in Alta.


Second-round play is scheduled for Tuesday, July 9, and the district final is scheduled to be played on Saturday, July 13.


Among the teams competing in the Class 1A, Substate 1 postseason is Harris-Lake Park. The Wolves have the No. 4 seed and will host fifth-seeded South O'Brien at 7 p.m. Saturday.


Class 2A, Substate 1 District 1 postseason play includes a 5 p.m. Saturday game between fourth-seeded Okoboji and fifth-seeded Sioux Central and a 7 p.m. matchup between No. 3 Emmetsburg and No. 6 Sheldon. Both of those contests are in Emmetsburg. Spirit Lake, meanwhile, is the No. 2 seed and will host the Emmetsburg-Sheldon winner at 5 p.m. July 9.


In Class 2A, Substate 2 District playoff action, No. 4 Central Lyon plays No. 5 West Sioux at 5 p.m. Saturday in Cherokee. The winner will play at top-seeded West Lyon at 7 p.m. July 9.
