Iowa high school football playoffs to begin Friday

The Iowa state high school football playoffs kick off Friday for 8 Player through Class 2A teams.


First-round games in 2A, 1A, A, and 8 Player are set individually. The round of 16 in all classes features four four-team pods, with the winners of those pods advancing to the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls for the state semifinals and finals.


Tickets for the first round, second round and quarterfinal games are $8 and will be sold through the IHSAA Tickets page. Tickets for semifinals and finals will be sold through UNI Athletics.


Qualifiers and RPI for 5A, 4A, and 3A will be released Friday. Round of 16 matchups for all classes will be released at 10 a.m. Saturday.


Among Class 2A games Friday night are: No. 4 Cherokee at No. 1 Spirit Lake; No. 4 Garner-Hayfield-Ventura at No. 1 West Lyon; No. 3 Forest City at No. 2 Central Lyon/George-Little Rock; and No. 3 Western Christian at No. 2 Okoboji.


In Class A action, No. 4 Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn will be at No. 1 West Hancock and No. 3 Sibley-Ocheyedan will be at No. 2 Woodbury Central.
