Iowa high school softball playoffs get underway

Iowa high school softball postseason action got underway Monday with multiple teams from the region involved in games.

 

In Class 1A Region 1, Gehlen Catholic toppled visiting George-Little Rock 11-2 and host South O’Brien beat Harris-Lake Park 10-2. Gehlen Catholic is now 14-9 and will next play at 20-9 Woodbury Central at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Mustangs’ season ends with a 1-17 record. South O’Brien, meanwhile, is now 11-12 and will play at 25-6 Newell-Fonda at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Wolves conclude their season with a mark of 4-16.

 

In Class 2A Region 1, Sibley-Ocheyedan aimed to pick up its first victory over the season, but its hopes were dashed in a 9-4 loss to West Sioux in Ireton. The Falcons are no2 5-14 and will play at 30-7 West Monona on Wednesday. The Generals finish at 0-18. Another regional team, Central Lyon, has a bye on Monday; the 5-16 Lions will travel to 9-13 MMCRU on Wednesday.

 

In Class 2A Region 2, Emmetsburg improved to 10-15 on the season by knocking off 7-12 Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 9-3. The E-Hawks will take on 20-6 Sioux Central on Wednesday at location yet to be determined.

 

In Class 3A Region 1, the playoff action begins later this week with games involving teams from regional high schools including Okoboji, Sheldon, West Lyon and Spirit Lake on Thursday.
