Iowa high school baseball playoff action got underway Saturday with multiple games.
In Class 1A Substate 1 action, Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Jonathan Hout had a double and two singles, but the Generals were defeated by Kingsley-Pierson 7-4 in Marcus. Kingsley-Pierson will next play MMCRU, which won at home over Hartley-Melvin Sanborn 9-3, at 7p.m. Tuesday in Marcus.
Also in Class 1A Substate 1, Harris-Lake Park shut out South O’Brien 9-0 in Lake Park to improve 11-11 on the season and will play at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Akron-Westfield, which has a record of 24-3. George-Little Rock also edged Westwood 4-3. The 5-12 Mustangs will play at 20-7 Alta-Aurelia at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
In Class 2A Substate 1 play, Okoboji rolled past Sioux Central 13-0 and Emmetsburg defeated Sheldon 13-2; both of those games were in Emmetsburg. Okoboji, now 10-14 this season, will take on Estherville Lincoln Central (18-5) at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hess-Limberg Field in Estherville; that game will be preceded by a matchup between 13-9 Spirit Lake and 14-7 Emmetsburg at 5 p.m.
Also in Class 2A Substate 1, Central Lyon got past West Sioux 3-1. West Lyon, with a record of 17-3, hosts 10-17 Central Lyon at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Iowa high school softball teams are scheduled to begin regional playoff action Monday.
In Class 2A Region 1, Sibley-Ocheyedan – which is winless on the season at 0-17 – will play at 4-14 West Sioux at 7 p.m. in Ireton. The winner in that matchup will play at West Monona, which has a season record of 30-7, at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Central Lyon, meanwhile, has a first-round bye, even though its season record is 5-16. The Lions will play at 7 p.m. Wednesday at MMCRU, which is 9-13, in Marcus. The winner there will play at 7 p.m. Friday in Hinton.
In Class 2A Region 2, 7-11 Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn will play at 7 p.m. Monday at Emmetsburg, which is 9-15. The winner of that matchup will play Sioux Central on Wednesday at a location to be determined.
In Class 3A Region 1, the playoff action begins later this week. Okoboji, which is 6-14, will play at 27-5 Estherville Lincoln Central at 7 p.m. Thursday. Other games set for 7 p.m. that night have Sheldon, which is 9-8, will play 14-10 Unity Christian at MOC-Floyd Valley. West Lyon, state ranked at 20-3, will host 10-13 Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley and 9-15 Spirit Lake is at 15-8 MOC-Floyd Valley. Semifinal games are scheduled for Saturday, and the finals will be on Tuesday, July 16.
In Class 1A Region 1, George Little Rock – which has a record of 1-15 this season – will meet 13-9 Gehlen Catholic at 7 p.m. Monday in Granville. The winner of that game will play at Woodbury Central at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Harris-Lake Park, 4-15 this year, will play at South O’Brien at 7 p.m. Monday, with the winner there to play at Newell-Fonda on Wednesday.
