Jackson nips Pipestone, 2-1, in amateur baseball playoffs

The second-seeded Jackson Bulls tallied the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning Wednesday and went on to edge the seventh-seeded Pipestone A's 2-1 in the first game of a Region 13C amateur baseball best-of-three playoff series.

Easton Bahr's infield single led to the game-winning run, as he stole second base after his hit and then went to third on a sacrifice bunt before scoring on a sacrifice fly. Evan Oleson allowed just three hits and struck out 10 to earn the pitching victory for Jackson.

Also Wednesday, top-seeded Luverne rolled to a 10-0, eight-inning triumph over eighth-seeded Lakefield to take a 1-0 lead in those teams' series. In Fairmont, the host Martins exploded for eight runs in the eighth to record an 11-8 win over sixth-seeded Hadley. In Milroy, the fourth-seeded Irish blanked the No. 5 Windom Pirates 8-0.

Game two in a pair of Region 13C playoff series will be tonight. Luverne's Redbirds will play at Lakefield's Horned Frogs in a matchup scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Also Friday, Jackson will play at Pipestone at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday contests include Milroy at Windom and Fairmont at Hadley, both at 2 p.m. If any game threes are necessary, they'll be played at 2 p.m. Saturday on the home field of the high seed.
