The undefeated Jackson County Central Huskies advanced to the Minnesota State Class AA Prep Bowl with a 34-26 victory over Kimball Area behind's sophomore Gage Johnson's three touchdowns.
Johnson scored a pair of two-yard TDs — both on 4th-and-goal plays — to give the Huskies a 14-0 lead, bur Kimball Area came back. The Cubs trimmed the JCC advantage to 14-12 by halftime and brought the second-half back for a score and an 18-14 edge. It marked the first time the now 12-0 Huskies had trailed all season.
Clay Malchow's three-yard TD run on another JCC fourth-down play put the Huskies back in front midway through the third quarter, but Kimball Area later scored and grabbed a 26-20 lead. The Huskies answered almost immediately on a 53-yard touchdown dash by Ben Dahlin that tied it and set the stage for Johnson's game-winning 18-yard TD run. with slightly less than four minutes to go.
JCC meets Staples-Motley at 4 p.m. Friday at U.S. Bank Stadium for the Class AA title.
