Three Jackson County Central wrestlers captured individual championships Saturday at the state wrestling tournament in St. Paul.
Competing in Class A, Nolan Ambrose of the Huskies won his third title, completing his tournament with a 3-0 win over top-seeded Alex Diedrich of Royalton-Upsala in the 132-pound finals.
At 138 pounds, Thomas Freking of JCC also won a state championship, capping his run to a title by edging Colby Tappe of Staples Motley 4-3. Additionally, at 220, the Huskies’ Caleb Vancura was able to take home a state crown as he closed out his day by taking an 11-5 decision over Ethan Boll of Crookston.
At 285, JCC’s Cameron Scholten advanced all the way to the championship match but settled for second place after coming up short against Keegan Kuball of Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Jaynesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, 9-4. Logan Butzon of the Huskies finished in third place at 145 pounds, and teammate Matt Haley also came in third at 195. JCC’s Isaiah Rodriguez, wrestling at 152, finished in sixth place.
Also competing in the individual state tourney for the Huskies were Kayden Eller (106), Ben Dahlin (126) and Trey Rossow (160). Dylan Withers qualified at 170 but was unable to compete due to injury.
Four Adrian-Ellsworth wrestlers made the trip to state as well, and Cameron Wieneke placed fourth at 285 pounds. Also competing were Travis Weiss (113), Quentin Wolf (182) and Jaren Winselman (220),
DJ Rock and Sam Rock of Luverne each placed fifth at 160 and 170, respectively for the Cardinals. Bernie Rock of Luverne took second place at 114 in girls competition; Cece Rock was fourth at 138 girls.
In Class 2AA wrestling, Windom-Mountain Lake’ Preston Xayachak took sixth place at 106 pounds.
