U.S. Sens. Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar, both Minnesota Democrats, have announced nearly 130 new clean energy projects across rural Minnesota.
The $15.6 million investment is intended to save farms and rural small businesses nearly $18.4 million on their energy bills per year while simultaneously reducing harmful carbon emissions.
Three individual investments are being made within Murray County. A total of $99,375 will go toward the purchase and installation of a 52.8 kW solar array for a farm in Slayton, $84,465 has been allotted for the purchase and installation of an energy-efficient grain dryer for a farm in Fulda, and $74,450 will go toward the purchase and installation of a 55 kW solar array for a Slayton farm.
Additionally, a total of six clean energy project investments are being made in Rock County. Four of those investments — $99,959, $72,158, $66,500 and $66,125 — are going toward the purchase and installation of solar arrays in Luverne, with the nearly $100,000 investment going for a construction company and the other three for farms. A investment of $65,562 is being made for purchasing and installing a solar array for a farm in Hills, and a total of $45,850 has been designated for purchase and installation of an energy-efficient geothermal system on a farm.
Three more investments are being made in Pipestone County, including $156,597 for purchasing and installing energy-efficient LED lighting and heat mats for a hog farm.
