Dannyn Peterson scored a game-best 25 points and the Minnesota West Lady Jays captured a women’s basketball conference win on the road Wednesday night, edging Riverland Community College 74-70 in Austin.
Peterson made 10-of-13 shots from the field and was five-of-six from the foul line for Minnesota West, which improved to 5-9 on the season while handing Riverland its first defeat in seven games. Peterson also led all Lady Jays players with nine rebounds.
Also contributing for Minnesota West were Madisyn Huisman, who had 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting – including two of three from 3-point range – and MacKensie Post, who chipped in with 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals.
The Lady Jays made 52.9Z% of their field goal attempts and were a solid 15-of-18, or 83.3%, from the foul line. Riverland shot 44.6% from the field and turned the ball over 19 times compared to just five turnovers for Minnesota West.
Only the Minnesota West women were on the court Wednesday, as the men will play at Riverland on Sunday. Both the women’s and men’s teams will take on St. Cloud Tech in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader scheduled to be broadcast on 104.3 The Bridge.
