Lady Jays fall at home in basketball, 64-56

The Minnesota West Lady Jays basketball team lost their third straight game Wednesday night, as they were beaten 64-56 by Des Moines Area Community College at the Center for Health & Wellness.


Minnesota West, now 5-5 on the season, actually outshot Des Moines Area from the floor, making 38% percent of its field goal attempts compared to 35% for its opponents, The Lady Jays, however, went 0-for-21 from behind the 3-point line while also committing 23 turnovers. They also made just 4-of-11 free throws.


Sadie Krahling topped Minnesota West in scoring Wednesday night with 23 points, and she also picked up a team-leading three steals. Rhea Tucker had a solid outing, scoring 20 points on 10-of-16 shooting while also pulling down a game-high 17 rebounds. 


Chloe Costello's 21 points was best for Des Moines Area, which has a record of 8-4.


The Lady Jays, along with the Minnesota West men's basketball team, play doubleheaders both Friday night and Saturday afternoon. The women take on Itasca, which has a record of 4-6, at 5:30 p.m. Friday, while the men start at approximately 7:30 p.m. against a 4-7 Vikings squad. The Bluejays, meanwhile, are 10-2.


The women's game starts at 1 p.m. Saturday and the men's at 3, with Northland the opponent. The Northland women are ranked second nationally and have a 7-4 record, while the men are 4-8. Catch all the weekend action on 104.3 La Voz.
