The Minnesota West Lady Jays volleyball team took No. 1-in-the-nation Century College to five games Saturday afternoon before falling 3-2 at the Center for Health and Wellness. Game scores were 24-26, 25-22, 25-18, 21-25, 15-8.
Minnesota West, ranked No. 14 in the country, had 16 kills and 15 digs from Ella Hesse, who was also 11-for-11 serving and added three blocks. Kiarra Danielson contributed nine kills, eight digs and two ace serves on 21-of-22 serving. Lexi Schreurs passed for 35 set assists and had 13 digs while going 12-for-12 serving.
On Friday, the Lady Jays won at home by cruising past Western Technical College 3-0 by game scores of 25-15, 25-14, 26-24.
Hesse led the way with nine kills and 11 digs while serving 17-of-17. Ella Kamrud added eight kills and Shawna Rogers had nine digs and an ace serve. Minnesota West is now 13-3 on the season.

The Worthington High School volleyball team went 2-2 on Saturday in a tournament at Jackson County Central High School.
The Trojans topped both Triton and Austin 2-0, lost to Kasson-Mantorville 2-0 and fell to New Ulm 2-1. WHS is now 5-5 overall this season.
Among the leaders for the Trojans Saturday were Madison Beckmann, 32 total kills, and Addison Gerber, 68 total set assists. Jayden Spartz had 19 digs over the final two matches to pace Worthington in that category. Natya Khamphanh had four ace serves in the match against Austin alone. The Trojans host Marshall Tuesday night.

Academy of Holy Angels, the second-ranked Class AA boys soccer team in the state, visited Worthington Friday night and came away with a 3-1 win over the Trojans.
Maqui Sandoval scored the lone goal for the WHS, now 6-2 overall. They play their next game at Waseca on Tuesday night.

The Worthington Trojans took the lead on Belle Plaine early Friday night but the host Tigers roared back to claim a 46-20 win in high school football action.
For Worthington, Tucker Brandner and Jacari Swinea hooked up on a 62-yard touchdown pass play for the first TD. After 28 unanswered Belle Plaine points made it 28-7, Swinea scored on a 61-yard run for WHS. Brandner ran three yards for the final Trojan touchdown.
Swinea rushed 16 times for 148 yards for Worthington. On defense, Christian Kleve had 10 total tackles and Chase Bryne had nine. Now 0-3, the Trojans play at New Ulm this coming Friday.

In college football Saturday, Minnesota West was defeated on the road by Central Lakes 27-13.
The Blue Jays’ Quonterrion Brooks began the second half by running back the kickoff 81 yards for a TD, making it 8-6 Central Lakes at that point. The home team, however, would extend its advantage to 27-6 before Minnesota West scored late in the fourth quarter on a seven-yard scoring pass from Breyer Hieronimus to Rashaye Rogers.
Rejiwon Dupree topped the Bluejays with 70 yards rushing and 34 yards receiving. Minnesota West, now 0-3, had 120 yards of total offense compared to Central Lakes’ 295. DeShawn Clark had 11 total tackles for the Bluejays defensively and Brody Knapp had nine.
