The Minnesota West Lady Jays have flip-flopped places with Anoka-Ramsey in the latest NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball poll.
Minnesota West went 2-0 in its games last week, including a 72-51 win at the Rams this past Saturday. The Lady Jays, now 10-7 overall this season and 2-0 in Minnesota College Athletic Conference play, had been ranked No. 4 in the national poll, just behind Anoka-Ramsey, but the new poll has the Lady Jays third and the Rams fourth.
A pair of familiar rivals sit atop the national women's poll, as Rochester is No. 1 and Northland No. 2. The Minnesota West women and men host the Yellow Jackets in a doubleheader on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Also in women's basketball, Lady Jays freshman Katrina Schutz was recognized earlier this week as the MCAC South Division Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 6-12. Schutz scored 40 points and grabbed 24 rebounds in two wins during the week. She made 17 of 29 shots from the field and went 5 for 5 from the free throw line. Schutz also had six assists, four steals and three blocks in 75 minutes of action.
In men's basketball, Minnesota West holds its spot at No. 15 in the NJCAA Division III men's poll. The Bluejays were 15-3 overall through last weekend's games and 1-1 in MCAC action.
Minnesota's Riverland still is tops in the nation with a record of 18-0 on the year through last weekend's games, and Minnesota West plays at the Blue Devils tonight. Another in-state rival — Minnesota State-Fergus Falls, which defeated Minnesota West 89-80 on Jan. 8 — is 15-2 overall and ranked 12th.
