The Minnesota West Lady Jays volleyball team advanced to the finals of the District 13A Tournament by cruising past Northland Community & Technical College 3-0 on Friday at Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Coon Rapids. Game scores were 25-17, 25-7, 25-12.
Minnesota West, ranked second nationally, is the tournament's top seed and played like one Friday afternoon. The Lady Jays led by as many as 11 points in game one, then dominated both games two and three. Minnesota West led by just 12-10 midway through the final game but wound up scoring the final 10 points to wrap up the match.
Ella Hesse recorded team highs of nine kills and 11 digs while contributing a pair of ace serves for the Lady Jays, now 31-4. Kadyn Paulson added 19 digs and Lexi Schreurs had 18 digs, two ace serves and 28 set assists. Also chipping in Friday were: Claire Bohlen, who also had nine kills; Sadie Krahling, eight kills; Madi Petersen, 17-17 serving with four aces; Kylee Larson, three blocks; and Alivia Jensen, two ace serves.
Minnesota West will play for an automatic national tournament at noon Saturday when it faces either Alexandria Tech or St. Cloud Tech.
