Luverne, Jackson top amateur baseball standings

The Worthington Cubs amateur baseball team made up their game at the Milroy Irish that had been scheduled for Sunday on Wednesday and were blanked by a score of 7-0.

 

In other amateur baseball action Wednesday, it was Luverne shutting out Heron Lake 4-0, Marshall defeating Pipestone 10-2 and Hadley getting past the Milroy Yankees 11-6. Windom was supposed to play host to the Milroy Irish at Island Park, but that game was postponed due to flooding at that field.

 

Current standings in Gopher League play have Luverne sitting in first place with an 8-1 record in league action. The Milroy Irish are 6-3, and the Hadley Buttermakers are right behind at 5-3. Pipestone has a mark of 3-5 and Worthington is fifth and last place at 1-10.

 

Current standings in First Nite League play have Jackson atop the rest of the competition with a record of 7-2. Fairmont is hot on the Bulls’ heels with 8 wins and 3 losses, and Windom is 7-3. The league standings are completed with Lakefield at 4-8, Fox Lake at 2-7 and Heron Lake at 2-8.

 

In games scheduled for Friday, Fairmont is at Pipestone, Heron Lake is at the Milroy Irish and Fox Lake is at Windom. Worthington's next game is slated for Sunday in Fox Lake.

 

Regular-season amateur baseball games are scheduled to wrap on July 14.
