Luverne topples Trojans on opening football night

Visting Luverne led 13-6 at halftime and then outscored Worthington 12-0 in the last two quarters to post a 25-6 victory over the Trojans in the teams’ season-opening football game Thursday night.

Jayden Johnson’s first TD of the night, followed by a point-after kick, made it 7-0 Luverne in the first quarter. Worthington responded by embarking a TD drive of its own that was capped by a five-yard scoring run by Jacari Swinea. Swinea had 97 rushing yards in the first half alone.

Johnson reached paydirt again, this time from two yards out, with 27 seconds remaining in the first half. That followed an interception he made on defense that thwarted a Trojan drive.

Luverne got its other touchdowns on a 20-yard scramble from QB Carter Sehr with six minutes remaining in the third quarter and a five-yard run on a reverse by Darius Dolo with just 34 seconds gone by in the fourth quarter.
