MCC downs Adrian-Ellsworth in sectional football action

Adrian-Ellsworth scored the game's first touchdown, but Murray County Central dominated the rest of the way as the third-seeded Rebels downed the second-seeded Dragons 38-8 Saturday afternoon in Adrian.

A-E, which finished its season at 7-2, marched down the field on its opening drive, and quarterback Aiden Tweet scored on a one-yard run and then ran in the two-point conversion for an 8-0 Dragon lead. MCC quickly answered, as Rebel QB Teague Meyer crossed the goal line on a 35-yard scamper and ran added a two-point conversion of his own to tie the score with 2:48 remaining in the first quarter.

Carson Engelkes booted a 35-yard field goal 15 seconds before halftime to edge MCC ahead, 11-8. The Rebels' Carson Lewis then proceeded to take the second-half kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown, and Lewis later added two more third-quarter TDs on runs of 33 and seven yards. Meyer added another TD on the first play of the fourth quarter on a seven-yard run.

MCC, now 8-2, takes on No. 1 seed Springfield on Friday at SMSU in Marshall.
