Minnesota West hoops teams win again at home

Both the Minnesota West men's and women's basketball teams finished off 2-0 sweeps of their tournament at the Center for Health & Wellness with Tuesday victories.


The men's squad improved to 14-2 on the season with an 86-72 triumph over North Dakota State College of Science. The Bluejays led by 15 at the half and ended up getting a team-leading 19 points from Henry Counsel, who shot 8-for-12 from the field on the night.


Three other players scored in double figures for the Minnesota West men. Zachery Rigg had 18 points, Karasharo Ojulo 13 and Keion Irvin 12 as the Bluejays won their eighth straight contest. Dylan Marshall paced Minnesota West in rebounds with six, Calvin Flood had five assists and Ojulo also added five steals. 


In the women's game Tuesday, the Lady Jays upped their season record to 8-6 by winning over North Dakota State College of Science 80-71.


Sadie Krahling led the way offensively by scoring 22 points, while Rhea Tucker contributed 14 points and Maddie Kamm 12. Minnesota West trailed by three at halftime, but outscored North Dakota State College of Science 23-15 in the third quarter and 16-12 in the fourth.


Tucker and Katrina Schutz both pulled down eight rebounds each for the Lady Jays. Kamm and Schutz each passed for five assists.


The Minnesota West women will play host to the Bethany Lutheran junior varsity at 1 p.m. Saturday. Both the women's and men's teams then entertain Minnesota State-Fergus Falls next Wednesday to begin conference play.
