Nobles County crash results in life-threatening injuries to deputy

UPDATE: A fund account has been set up at First State Bank Southwest in Worthington to support the Nobles County Sheriff's Office deputy who was critically injured in a Sunday crash.
According to a press release issued by the sheriff's office, anyone can contribute to the fund for Arnold Logan Waldner by stopping by the bank or calling (507) 376-9747.
The press release included a brief description of Sunday's crash, which took place on Interstate 90 near milepost 34 in Nobles County's Dewald Township. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2020 Chevy Equinox operated by Theresa Ann Bear, 63, of Sioux Falls was westbound on I-90 when it collided with a 2023 Dodge Durango squad car operated by Waldner, 30, of Worthington. The State Patrol later noted that the squad car was parked with lights activated assisting in traffic direction for a crash investigation when the Equinox struck the squad car. The Equinox/squad car crash was reported at 4:34 p.m. Sunday.
Waldner, who had been seated inside the parked squad car at the time of the crash, was transported to Sanford Worthington Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Bear was taken to the Sanford Luverne Medical Center’s emergency room with non-life-threatening injuries.
The press release noted that Waldner had been with the sheriff’s office for two years. Said Sheriff Ryan Kruger in the release: “Please continue to hold Deputy Waldner in your thoughts and prayers.”

A West Virginia man is dead as a result of a Friday night crash on I-90.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 operated by Thomas Charles Lostetter, 46, of St. Marys, W.V., and a 2018 Peterbilt semi tractor operated by Brody William Alderson, 30, of Lake Benton were both westbound on I-90 when they collided near milepost 27. The crash was reported at 10:55 p.m. Friday in Nobles County's Olney Township.
Lostetter, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene of the crash, while Alderson was unhurt. The Nobles County Sheriff's Office, Adrian Police and Fire departments and Adrian Fire and Medical assisted at the scene.
