Wet and chilly weather forced the cancellation of numerous area athletic events on Thursday.
In District 518, the girls and golf meet at Pipestone was canceled and will not be rescheduled. A Trojans varsity baseball game at Fairmont was postponed until May 9 and will now be part of a doubleheader in Worthington, and a varsity softball game set for Thursday against the Cardinals will now be part of a May 9 doubleheader in Fairmont. A Thursday boys tennis match against Pipestone was postponed until May 5.
As for the Trojans tennis team, the squad split matches on Monday and Tuesday ahead of Thursday’s rainout.
On Monday, WHS won a match on the road in Granite Falls against Yellow Medicine East, 6-1. The Trojans won each of the singles matches. At No. 1 singles, Ian Barber earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory, and second-seeded Evan Hansberger won 7-5, 6-1. No. 3 seed Lance Gordon took a three-set match by a score of 6-0, 6-7 (4), 6-2, and fourth-seeded Bennett Oberloh won in a 6-0, 6-0 shutout.
In doubles action against Yellow Medicine East, the second-seeded tandem of Victory Bu and Diego Ramos were triumphant by scores of 6-3, 6-4. Soe Nay Htoo and Nick Martinez won at No. 3 doubles, 6-2, 6-1.
On Tuesday, Worthington traveled to New Ulm and was blanked 7-0 by the Eagles. The Trojans will play at Blue Earth Area on Monday.
