Luverne is the lone amateur baseball team from Region 13 that remains alive in the state tournament.
The Redbirds had received a first-round bye and will play their first game of the tourney on Saturday against the Plato Blue Jays. The teams will meet at 4:30 p.m. in Delano.
Other Region 13 qualifiers for state were all beaten in opening-round matchups. The Green Isle Irish held off the Jackson Bulls 4-3 on Saturday in Delano. In Litchfield on Saturday, the Hutchinson Huskies blanked the Fairmont Martins 2-0, and the Elrosa Saints also knocked off Hadley on Saturday, 4-3.
