It was a tough season-opener for the Worthington Trojans girls hockey team Tuesday night as it was defeated 10-0 by visiting Mankato West.
It looked early on as if Tuesday's game was going to be a tight one, as the Scarlets got the first period's lone goal after exactly 10 minutes of play. Freshman Trojan goaltender Macie Mahlberg stopped seven of eight shots in that period, while WHS managed just two shots on net.
What had been a close contest quickly became lopsided in the second period as Mankato West made it 2-0 with 2:29 gone by and then picked up another goal just 37 seconds later and yet another just 10 seconds after that. The Scarlets went on to tack on four more goals before the period was over for an 8-0 advantage.
The Trojans are it once again Thursday as they play at Austin.
