September's high temperatures were well above average while the rainfall total way below normal, according to data recorded at Worthington's Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The average high temperature for this past month was 79.6 degrees, which is 6.7 degrees warmer than the 72.9 normal high for Worthington in September. This past month's average high was also .8 degrees warmer than the average high for this past August. The Wastewater Treatment Plant recorded four high temperatures of 86 degrees during the month – on the 16th, 17th, 29th and 30th.
The average low temperature for this just-completed September was 52.8 degrees, or 3.7 degrees warmer than the 49.1 that's normal for Worthington. The coolest thermometer reading came on Sept. 7, when there was a low of 44. The next coolest, 46 degrees, came on Sept. 6 and 21.
As for rainfall, a total of just .3 inches were measured at the Wastewater Treatment Plant this past month. The September average for Worthington is 3.21 inches. The greatest amount of rain in one 24-hour period this past August was recorded on Sept. 17; the total was .19 inches.
For the first nine months of 2024, the average high has been 61.5 degrees and the average low 40.8. That compares to typical year-to-date averages of 58.4 and 37.8, respectively.
The precipitation total for the year now stands at 33.13 inches. That's still above normal, as the nine-month average total for Worthington is 25.99 inches.
