Sibley-Ocheyedan sending three to state cross-country meet

Three members of the Sibley-Ocheyedan High School cross-country program will be competing in the upcoming state Class A meet.


The Generals competed this past Thursday in the Iowa State Class 1A State Qualifier in Holstein, Iowa. Junior Ben Beyers of Sibley-Ocheyedan earned a spot in the state meet by finishing third with a time of 17:23.98 for the 5,000-meter course. Jude Benbow of Ogden finished first with a time of 16.50.91, slightly more than two seconds ahead of Lucos Wernimont of Sioux Central.


Another male qualifier for the Generals was senior Cale Reiter, who crossed the finish line in 10tth place with a time of 17:57.58. Among those also competing Thursday for Sibley-Ocheyedan were David Poppen, who placed 17th; Cole Dykstra, who was 26th; and Triston Vos, who was 34th.


In the girls qualifying race, the Generals' Amadelaid Benitez — a freshman — earned a spot at the state meet by placing 10th overall with a time of 21.16.84. Nora Peterson of Alta-Aurelia was the winner Thursday with a clocking of 19:02.93, nearly a minute ahead of her closet rival. Also competing for Sibley-Ocheyedan was Erika Rosenberg, who placed 46th.


The Iowa state Class A competition will take place Saturday in Fort Dodge.
