The Minnesota Section 3A girls basketball tournament gets underway tonight with play-in-round contests.
On the south side of the bracket, eighth-seeded Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda will take on ninth-seeded Tracy-Milroy-Balaton at 7 p.m. in Okabena. In another game, seventh-seeded Murray County Central hosts No. 10 Red Rock Central at 7 p.m. in Slayton.
Losers of those games will see their seasons come to a close. The victors, meanwhile, will play on what's commonly known as "Super Saturday" at Worthington High School.
This Saturday, top-seeded Hills-Beaver Creek will meet either Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda or Tracy-Milroy Balaton at 11 a.m. in the first of four consecutive games in the WHS gym. At approximately 12:30 p.m., it will be No. 4 Edgerton taking on No. 5 Westbrook-Walnut Grove. Next, at 2:30 p.m., will be a matchup between second-seeded Adrian-Ellsworth and either Murray County Central or Red Rock Central. The final game of the day will be No. 3 Southwest Minnesota Christian against No. 6 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at 4 p.m.
Saturday's winners will play in the Section 3A South semifinals Tuesday night at WHS, and the subsectional final is slated for Friday, Feb. 28 at SMSU in Marshall. The sectional title game will be March 6 at SMSU.
