This past December was warmer, drier than normal

December's local weather was both warmer and drier than normal, according to data collected at Worthington's Wastewater Treatment plant.


The average high temperature for this past month was 31.3 degrees, which is 3.4 degrees warmer than the 27.9-degree normal high for Worthington in December. The Wastewater Treatment Plant recorded a high temperature of 56 degrees on Dec. 9, as well as a high of 50 on Dec. 29.

 

The average low temperature for this just-completed December was 14.8 degrees, or 3.0 degrees warmer than the 11.8 that's normal for Worthington. There were two below-zero lows during December, as a reading of -4 degrees was recorded on Dec. 12 and a low of minus-1 the next day.


As for precipitation, a total of .4 inches were measured at the Wastewater Treatment Plant this past month, including 3.7 inches of snow. The December average for Worthington is .88 inches of precip. The greatest amount of moisture during the month — .12 inches — was recorded on Dec. 19.


For all of 2024, the average high was 58.1 degrees and the average low 37.4. That compares to typical year-round averages of 54.5 and 34.3, respectively.


The precipitation total for the year came in at 37.10 inches. The yearly average total for Worthington is 30.52 inches.
