The Worthington Trojans boys hockey team took a 3-0 first-period lead and went on to defeat Redwood Valley 6-2 on Tuesday night.
Trenton Chantharath had a pair of goals for WHS as well as an assist and Spencer Nickel scored a goal and contributed three assists as the Trojans improved to 1-2 on the year. Also scoring for Worthington, which outshot the Cardinals 37-28, were Ryker Thier, Mason Ommen and Dominic Pavelko.

In girls basketball, visiting Mankato West set the tone right away by scoring the game's first 13 points and the Scarlets rolled to an 88-47 triumph over Worthington.
Mankato West connected for 13 3-point field goals in the first half as it took a 66-27 lead into the break. The Scarlets were up by as many as 52 in the second half before the Trojans drew a bit closer.
Jayden Spartz led WHS offensively with 14 points and Saige Scheepstra added 13 as the Trojans dropped to 0-2. They'll next meet Windom at 4 p.m. Saturday at Minnesota West.

In men's basketball Monday night, MInnesota West won on the road against the Bethany Lutheran JV, 97-95. The Bluejays are now 7-2 this season.
Zackery Rigg had a huge game in the victory, scoring 36 points on 13-of-18 shooting from the floor. Deondre Wallace added 18 points and a game-high seven rebounds off the bench, and Karasharo Ojullo chipped in with 15 points.
The Minnesota West men and women host a doubleheader next Monday against the Dakota State JV.
