Trojans boys soccer team cruises to 6-0 victory

The WHS boys soccer team remained unbeaten Thursday night as it cruised to a 6-0 triumph on the road at St. James/Windom/Madelia.

 

The Trojans, now 5-0-1, got three goals from Danny Banegas as well as a goal apiece from Alan Tovar, Andy Guzman and Isaac Perez. Adrian Flores and Jordan Garcia split time in net for Worthington, which plays a noon match Saturday in Austin.

In girls soccer, the Trojans were edged at home by St. James/Windom/Madelia 2-0. Worthington hosts Austin at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Trojans’ volleyball team dropped to 3-2 on the season Thursday, losing 3-1 at Jackson County Central. Game scores were 25-27, 25-18, 25-22, 25-21.

 

Jayden Spartz had 13 kills along with 13 digs for WHS. Saige Scheepstra contributed eight kills and a pair of blocks. Also chipping in for the Trojans were Kaitlyn Jueneman with 12 digs, Grace Barber with 11 digs, and Natya Khamphanh with 28 set assists and 10 digs.

 

Worthington will next play Tuesday night at Marshall.

Fanuel Wolday led the Worthington boys cross country team with a second-place finish on Thursday and teammate Austin Kinser was fifth at a meet at Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.

 

Murray County Central/Fulda’s Matthew Stapek placed eighth to top the Warriors, who finished second as a team behind Redwood Valley. The Trojans came in fifth; Adrian-Ellsworth was ninth.

 

Also running for WHS were Isaac Kinser, 37th; Jose Chavez Vega, 39th; and Holden Meyer, 50th. Adrian-Ellsworth’s fastest runner Thursday was Darwin Demarrias-Jansma, who was 19th.

 

In girls competition, Murray County Central/Fulda wound up in third at the T-M-B meet, while Adrian-Ellsworth was fifth and Worthington seventh. Redwood Valley was first in the girls race as well.

 

Mara Clarke was sixth for the Warriors and teammate Laiken Farris was eighth. Keyona Klingenberg crossed the finish line first for Adrian-Ellsworth in 18th place, with Olivia Bullerman 22nd and Lucy Their 23rd. Madison Sieve led Worthington with a 26th-place finish.
