Worthington High School's boys tennis team played its second match of the season — and second in two days — on Friday afternoon, falling to visiting Montevideo 6-1.

All of the defeats for the Trojans came in straight sets. The lone match triumph came at No. 3 doubles, where the tandem of Ryker Fricke and Coltin Olmanson came with a three-set win.

WHS hosts Luverne in another home meet Monday afternoon beginning at 4:30. The squad will then be idle until Saturday, when it hosts a multi-team invitational at the middle school courts.

The Worthington Trojans opened their softball season with a victory Saturday, as visiting WHS held a off a furious Waseca rally in the bottom of the seventh to come away with a 12-11 win.

Hannah McNab blasted a grand slam home run in the game; she also connected for a triple and finished with six RBIs in all. Bailey Ponto enjoyed a 4-for-5 day at the plate while driving in three runs and hitting her first career homer. Ponto also picked up the pitching triumph for the Trojans.

Breeta Johnson contributed two singles and a double for Worthington, Emma Hietbrink added a single and double and Tayler Nickel had two singles. The Trojans led 12-5 entering the bottom of the seventh, and Waseca would put up a six-spot before ultimately falling short by just one run.

WHS will be back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Marshall.
